AHDO meets with APEFA in Kigali, Rwanda
On 27 October2020, the delegations of the two institutions met to get to know each other better and define further the terms of partnership and collaboration.
AHDO was represented by Country Director Dr. Juvenal Nshiyimana and Kasai Province Bureau Chief, Mr. Moses Murokore. They were welcomed by APEFA Executive Director, Mr.Oscar Nzabonimpa, APEFA Director of Administration and Finance Mr.Livingstone Kubwayezu and other staff members of APEFA.
During the meeting, they discussed
- Practical arrangements for collaboration between the two institutions taking into account the clauses of the memorandum of understanding signed in July 2020
- other issues
After the introductory word from the Executive Director of APEFA, which consisted of welcoming and thanking the Regional Director of AHDO for having chosen APEFA as a partner, he then presented the genesis of APEFA, its achievements and challenges as well as its main areas of intervention which are:
- Sustainable agriculture / food supply
- Environment
- Hygiene and sanitation
- Education on agricultural and environmental practices
The APEFA Executive Director went on to suggest that these areas contribute to the socio-economic development of the community of APEFA's intervention districts, and in particular those of the country in general. The representatives of the two delegations exchanged views at length on the practical modalities of collaboration.
AHDO Country Director welcomed the progress already made by APEFA and wished APEFA a good continuation in its activities. At the end of the meeting the two delegations made the following recommendations:
- Organize the meeting of the technical teams of the two institutions in the near future for the materialization of the memorandum of understanding in place, even if it means developing in detail the action plan of the projects relating to the establishment of vegetable gardens in schools as well as the plantation of fruit trees along Duke Kivu.
- Field visit by the AHDO Country Director to observe the situation on the ground in the two districts of Bugesera and Rulindo in which APEFA carried out certain activities aimed at environmental protection and sustainable agriculture focused on irrigation using solar energy.
