Welcome section

Dr. Vince SininingWelcome to the official website of Africa Health Development Organization (AHDO) in the DRC.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the poorest countries in the world and will have 15% of the world's poor by 2030 as projected by monitoring agencies. It has also suffered from decades of conflict. DRC is prone to large public health emergencies, including seven Ebola outbreaks since the 1970s, a large yellow fever outbreak and ongoing cholera epidemics. The nutrition situation in DRC is critical: 4.3 million children are malnourished, including 1.9 million children with severe acute malnutrition, as reported by actionforhunger.org.

According to MICS 2017-2018 the rate of acute malnutrition in DRC is up to 7% with a 42% rate of growth retardation. . In response to these statistics, DRC government has signed partnerships with several parties, including AHDO, to fight malnutrition and provide food security.

DRC, as DFID reported, has enormous potential for growth, trade and investment. It has enough fertile land to feed a billion people. Its forests are second in size only to the Amazon. Its hydroelectric energy resources could power most of Africa. It has an estimated $24 trillion of mineral wealth. Unlocking this potential will have huge benefits for the Congolese people and the region.

DRC is facing many challenges typical among the least developed nations: high levels of poverty, malnutrition and inadequate healthcare. We believe that a healthy and well-nourished population is an important factor in the government's efforts towards achieving the country's sustainable development.

Our way forward is to partner and collaborate with various stakeholders, international donors, and the DRC Ministry of Public Health in combating malnutrition and in improving health of the population. We believe in the power of working together to achieve our common goals.
